DATA ON THE THOMPSON FALLS AREA 59873

Due to the U.S. Postal Service addressing system, the address is in the Trout Creek area. However, the property is physically closer to Thompson Falls. Thompson Falls is located on Highway 200 about 100 miles northwest of Missoula, Montana, and about 165 miles east of Spokane, Washington. Glacier Park is about 135 miles to the north. Sandpoint, Idaho is about 80 miles to the west and has more services than Thompson Falls. Thompson Falls is the county seat in a town of about 1,500 people serving a county of over 11,000. Most all services are available in town, and there is a hospital 22 miles away at Plains, Montana. There are two medical clinics here. There is a lighted and surfaced airport approximately four miles east of town. Thompson Falls is the trade center most used in this area because it is the county seat. It has been a logging community for many years, but there has been a drastic reduction in allowable timber cuts on public lands that has changed the logging dramatically. Payroll numbers have been relegated to schools, two hydro plants, electric utilities, and state & county government jobs. There is some recreational based business developing. Thompson Falls has an excellent public school system and has most churches that are common to this part of the country. There is no public transportation available. This area of Montana is known for having some of the warmer temperatures for the state. This area has a great deal of Forest Service land, making for a vast selection of outdoor activities which include: sight seeing, hiking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and there are some good downhill skiing areas not far from here.

Belknap, Montana
(Area)

Belknap is a census-designated place in Sanders County, Montana. The population was 167 at the 2018.  This an area where the property is located.  It consists of the Belknap store (Fresh produce, bakery, deli, and bulk foods). Also an animal feed and storage shed department owned by Mennonites. There are several historical locations including the old Belknap school which is now a private residence.  Rock Hill (magnetic mount) is atop and west off Little Beaver Creek Road.  Belknap had a train station. At the turn of the century Belknap had 5000 residents living in a tent city.  The Rocking Pines property has a remnant of the old road to Idaho where miners would bring silver down from Murray Idaho.  The property is 16 mines west as the crow flies from the Idaho border.  Not to be mistaken for Fort Belknap.
